The journal publishes high-quality empirical research, theoretical analyses, and evidence-based educational practices that address literacy learning in global, multicultural, and digital environments.
JGMPE welcomes contributions from researchers, teacher educators, school practitioners, and policy scholars whose work supports the improvement of literacy, communication, and learning practices among elementary school students. The journal emphasizes academic rigor, pedagogical relevance, ethical research practices, and global perspectives in primary education.
This statement outlines the ethical responsibilities and expected conduct of all parties involved in the publication process, including authors, editors, peer reviewers, and the publisher. JGMPE is committed to maintaining the highest standards of publication ethics and integrity. This statement is based on the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors.
DUTIES OF EDITORS
Decision on the Publication of Articles
The Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor are responsible for making decisions regarding which manuscripts should be accepted and published after undergoing the journal's peer-review process. Editorial decisions shall be based on the manuscript's academic quality, originality, methodological rigor, relevance to the scope of JGMPE, and contribution to the advancement of multiliteracy and primary education studies.
The Editor-in-Chief and Managing Editor may be guided by the policies of the journal's Editorial Board and applicable legal requirements concerning libel, copyright infringement, plagiarism, research ethics, and other matters related to publication. Editorial decisions shall remain independent and shall not be influenced by commercial, institutional, personal, or political interests.
Editors shall not interfere with or improperly influence the peer-review process. Manuscripts shall be evaluated according to their scholarly merit and relevance to the journal's aims and scope.
Fair Play
Manuscripts shall be evaluated solely on the basis of their intellectual and scholarly merit, including originality, theoretical contribution, methodological quality, clarity, and relevance to primary education and multiliteracy studies.
Editors shall not discriminate against authors based on race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, ethnic origin, citizenship, institutional affiliation, socioeconomic background, disability, or political philosophy.
Confidentiality
The Editor-in-Chief, Managing Editor, Editorial Board members, and editorial staff must maintain the confidentiality of submitted manuscripts. Information concerning a submitted manuscript shall not be disclosed to anyone other than the corresponding author, authors, reviewers, potential reviewers, editorial advisers, and the publisher, as appropriate.
Editors shall also ensure that manuscripts and related information are handled securely throughout the editorial and peer-review process.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
Editors shall not use unpublished information disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research or personal advantage without the express written consent of the author.
Editors must disclose any potential conflict of interest and, where appropriate, withdraw from handling a manuscript when their personal, professional, institutional, financial, or other relationships may compromise their impartiality.
Handling of Ethical Misconduct
Editors shall take appropriate and reasonable action when ethical misconduct is suspected or identified. Such misconduct may include plagiarism, fabrication, falsification, duplicate publication, undisclosed conflicts of interest, inappropriate authorship, citation manipulation, or other violations of publication ethics.
When necessary, editors may conduct an investigation, request clarification or evidence from the authors, consult reviewers or editorial advisers, and take appropriate corrective action, including correction, expression of concern, or retraction of a published article in accordance with established ethical guidelines.
DUTIES OF REVIEWERS
Contribution to the Peer-Review Process
Peer review assists editors in making informed editorial decisions and helps authors improve the quality, clarity, and scholarly contribution of their manuscripts.
JGMPE applies a peer-review process designed to ensure an objective and rigorous evaluation of submitted manuscripts. Reviewers are expected to assess manuscripts fairly and provide constructive comments concerning their theoretical framework, methodology, analysis, interpretation, originality, relevance, and contribution to multiliteracy and primary education.
Reviewer identities shall be treated as confidential in accordance with the journal's peer-review policy.
Promptness
Any reviewer who feels unqualified to review a submitted manuscript or knows that they cannot complete the review within the required timeframe should promptly notify the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor and decline the review assignment.
Reviewers should also notify the editors if they identify a potential conflict of interest before accepting or completing the review.
Confidentiality
Manuscripts received for review must be treated as confidential documents. Reviewers must not show, share, copy, distribute, or discuss the manuscript or its contents with others unless authorized by the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor.
Reviewers must not use information, data, arguments, methods, or ideas obtained through the peer-review process for personal research or advantage.
Standards of Objectivity
Reviews should be conducted objectively, fairly, and professionally. Reviewers should avoid personal criticism of the authors and should express their assessments clearly, respectfully, and with appropriate supporting arguments.
Reviewers should distinguish between major and minor concerns and provide constructive recommendations that may help improve the manuscript.
Acknowledgment of Sources
Reviewers should identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the authors when such references are important to the manuscript.
Reviewers should notify the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and another published work of which they have personal knowledge.
Conflict of Interest
Reviewers should not accept manuscripts for review when they have conflicts of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, personal, institutional, or other relationships with any of the authors, institutions, or organizations associated with the manuscript.
Reviewers must inform the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor of any potential conflict of interest before undertaking the review.
DUTIES OF AUTHORS
Reporting Standards
Authors of original research articles should present an accurate and complete account of the research conducted and provide an objective discussion of its significance.
Research findings, data, methods, procedures, and interpretations must be reported accurately. Authors should provide sufficient methodological detail and appropriate references to enable readers and other researchers to understand, evaluate, and, where applicable, replicate the research.
Fabrication, falsification, manipulation of data, and knowingly inaccurate statements constitute unethical behavior and are unacceptable.
Data Access and Retention
Authors may be asked to provide supporting or raw research data for editorial assessment when necessary. Authors should be prepared to provide access to such data where ethically and legally permissible and where appropriate for the verification of the research findings.
Authors should retain research data and relevant documentation for a reasonable period after publication in accordance with applicable ethical, institutional, and legal requirements.
Originality and Plagiarism
Authors must ensure that submitted manuscripts are original works and have not been published elsewhere.
When authors use the words, ideas, theories, data, images, or other materials of others, appropriate citation, acknowledgment, or quotation must be provided.
Plagiarism in any form, including direct copying, inappropriate paraphrasing, self-plagiarism, or presenting another person's ideas or work as one's own, is unacceptable.
Multiple Publications and Simultaneous Submission
Authors should not submit the same manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously.
Authors should not publish substantially the same research in multiple journals or primary publications unless there is a legitimate and transparent reason and appropriate disclosure and permission have been obtained.
Acknowledgment of Sources
Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be provided. Authors should cite publications that have significantly influenced the development, conception, theoretical framework, methodology, analysis, or interpretation of the reported research.
Authors should ensure that citations are relevant, accurate, and used appropriately.
Authorship of the Paper
Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made substantial contributions to the conception, design, execution, analysis, or interpretation of the reported research.
All individuals who have made significant contributions should be appropriately recognized as co-authors. Individuals who have contributed to specific substantive aspects of the research but do not meet the criteria for authorship should be appropriately acknowledged.
All listed authors must have made a meaningful contribution to the manuscript and must accept responsibility for their contributions.
The Corresponding Author
The Corresponding Author is responsible for communicating with the journal throughout the submission, peer-review, revision, and publication processes.
The Corresponding Author should ensure that all appropriate co-authors and no inappropriate co-authors are included in the manuscript. The Corresponding Author must also ensure that all co-authors have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript and agreed to its submission for publication.
Acknowledgment of Funding Sources
All sources of financial support for the research should be properly acknowledged in the manuscript.
Authors should disclose the role of funding organizations, if any, in the research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, manuscript preparation, or decision to submit the manuscript for publication.
Disclosure and Conflicts of Interest
All authors should disclose any financial, personal, professional, institutional, or other substantive conflicts of interest that could reasonably be perceived as influencing the research, its findings, interpretation, or publication.
All relevant sources of financial or other support for the research should be disclosed.
Ethical Considerations in Research Involving Human Participants
Research involving human participants, including elementary school students, teachers, parents, or other members of the educational community, must comply with applicable ethical standards and institutional requirements.
Authors are responsible for obtaining appropriate ethical approval, informed consent, parental or guardian consent where required, and necessary permissions for data collection involving participants.
Authors must protect participants' privacy, confidentiality, dignity, safety, and rights. Particular care should be taken when research involves children or other potentially vulnerable participants.
Fundamental Errors in Published Works
When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, the author has an obligation to promptly notify the Editor-in-Chief or Managing Editor and cooperate with the editors to correct or retract the article, where appropriate.
Authors should not delay reporting significant errors or attempt to conceal or minimize their impact on the published research.
DUTIES OF THE PUBLISHER
Publication Integrity
The publisher of JGMPE is committed to supporting the journal's editors, reviewers, and authors in maintaining academic integrity and ethical publication practices.
The publisher shall provide appropriate support for the investigation and resolution of suspected publication misconduct and shall cooperate with the editorial team in issuing corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions when necessary.
